Vintner Evelyn Kiken of Reverie Winery passed away on May 1 after a 15 year struggle with breast cancer. She was the co-owner and co-founder of Reverie on Diamond Mountain, LLC, a Napa Valley winery located in Calistoga, California.
Evelyn was born in Newark, New Jersey and attended high school in Springfield, New Jersey. She graduated from Rutgers University and holds degrees in Education, Home Economics and Education for the Learning Disabled.
In I993, Evelyn and Norman founded Reverie Winery on forty acres on Diamond Mountain in Calistoga making their first wines that year.
Evelyn was a Master Gardener and was very active in the Napa County Master Gardeners where she was a contributor to several gardening related articles. Additionally, she organized and sponsored fund raising events for the Breast Care Center of UCSF.
She is survived by her husband, Norman, her sons Andrew of Napa and Mark of New Jersey, and her brother Sanford Retsky of New York City. Internment will be in New Jersey and a memorial service will be held at Reverie Winery at a May date to be determined. The Family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the breast cancer charity of your choice. |
