2004 Daydream Chardonnay - Rated Outstanding By Wine and Spirits
”From a vineyard at the southern end of Napa, this chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees in neutral oak. The shimmer of its hightoned lees reveals smoky baked apple flavors; then it finishes firm with a youthful edge of malic acidity to balance the leesy richness. Chill it for grilled salmon. Daydream is made by Norman Kiken of Reverie and Marco DiGiulio”
2005 Daydream Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley - Rated 89 by Connoisseurs Guide
Its happy combination of fresh melon and kiwi fruit scents are joined by background suggestions of figs and light grasses, and even if its varietal content does not scream "Sauvignon Blanc", the wine is quite comfortable on the palate and says "buy me" on its own. Supple to start, then well-firmed by late acids in the finish, and always fruity from front to back, this one will delight with a wide range of dishes. |
These wonderful wines are a collaboration from veteran winemakers- Norman Kiken of Reverie on Diamond Mountain and Marco DiGiulio, former winemaker at Lokoya and Pepi Wineries and now a consultant to several leading wineries and, for the Chardonnay Grape Grower Ed Farver.
In producing these wines, simplicity was the mantra.
2005 GREEN ISLAND VINEYARD CHARDONNAY
The grapes were grown on Green Island Vineyard in the Southern Napa Valley . This area benefits from the cool breezes of San Pablo Bay which helps develop rich fruit flavors while maintaining well balanced natural acidity.
The grapes were hand picked at 25.2 Bx and 3.4 pH and gently pressed. They were fermented in a stainless steel fermenter using indigenous yeast. Malolactic fermentation was prevented. Prior to bottling, in order to gain additional complexity, the wine was aged on the lees in neutral oak barrels. The wine was given a light filtering before bottling.
On the nose, the wine is delightfully fruity with notes of green apple and pear. The wine exhibits pure Chardonnay character, with some richness on the palette and a crisp fruit finish. The absence of wood allows the true fruit flavors to predominate.
2005 SAUVIGNON BLANC
The grapes were grown on a meticulously maintained 12 year old vineyard in the Wooden Valley in the southeast quadrant of the Napa Valley. Warm days and cool nights help give the fruit its combination of ripe flavors and bright acidity.
The grapes were hand picked at 23.8 Bx and a 3.2 pH and gently pressed. They were fermented in a stainless steel fermenter using a specially selected aromatizing yeast designed to enhance the fruitfulness of these grapes. Malolactic fermentation was prevented in order to maintain the natural acid profile; the wine was kept throughout its ageing in stainless steel tanks. The wine was given a light filtering before bottling.
The wine is effusively fruity with notes of grapefruit, guava and passion fruit. On the palette, the wine is bright and refreshing with a surprising richness coming from the fully ripe flavors of melon and guava.
2004 Chardonnay Green Island Vineyard Napa Valley
Nicely focused, fresh Fuji apple fruit is the main message of this well-crafted middleweight while a deft bit of oak and wisps of sweet butter add a slight note of richness to the wine's basic mix. Smooth and rounded in feel, yet not at all lacking in energy, this is a wine for drinking sooner than later with milder poultry or meaty white fish. GOOD VALUE.
